In this Olympic year, Ashley’s dedication and perseverance has paid off!  At the 2009 US Championships, “after a twelfth place short program finish, Ashley redeemed herself in the long program, finishing in first place after the free skate and moving up to fourth overall,” as well as earning a 2009 World Junior bronze medal. Angela Ruggiero, three time Olympic ice hockey medalist, and figure skater Ashley Wagner have been named to ESPN.com’s “One year out: Athletes to watch for 2010″ list, which highlights some of the most promising athletes heading into the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Here are some winter athletes who just might pull off some miraculous performances a year from now:

Angela Ruggiero

The three-time Olympic hockey player is hoping to end her career on ice better than she did on TV. Ruggiero, who survived 10 weeks of the 13-week taping of “The Apprentice” before The Donald told her she was fired, has made up her mind to go for gold one more time in Vancouver. A Harvard graduate, Ruggiero has a gold, a silver and a bronze to her name. It will be tough for the Americans, who likely will face the Canadians on Canadian soil, but the United States won the 2008 World Championship.

Captain of the U.S. Women’s National hockey team, Angela is the all-time leader in games played for Team USA.

In women’s figure skating, listed as one of the Americans to watch is Ashley Wagner. She placed fourth at last month’s U.S. Figure Skating Championships, and is headed to the World Junior Championships in Bulgaria beginning Feb. 23.  She is among several women skaters who have a strong chance to make the U.S. Olympic team next year.
