VANCOUVER, B.C. –12 different players factored in the scoring to lead the U.S. Women’s National Team to a 7-0 blanking of Sweden Sept. 1 at the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup at GM Place. Team USA will close out preliminary-round play against Canada on Thursday (Sept. 3) at 7:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. ET).

In the first period, Kelli Stack put Team USA up 1-0 with help from Angela Ruggiero (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Kacey Bellamy at 5:54. The U.S. got into penalty trouble in the latter half of the frame, but held Sweden shotless for 20 minutes.

“I’m certainly happy with the energy we brought,” said Team USA Head Coach Mark Johnson. “We played a full 60 minutes, competed the whole time and were rewarded for a very good team effort.”
