Taylor Phinney (Trek-Livestrong) won the 4.2km prologue of the Fleche du Sud stage race in Luxembourg on Wednesday.

The four-day race, held since 1949, has been won in the past by Andy Schleck, Bradley Wiggins, Kim Kirchen and Alex Zulle.

In a Twitter post after the race, Phinney said he dedicated the win to retired multi-sport legend Steve Larsen, who died Tuesday evening in Bend, Oregon.

The technical prologue course was a good fit for Phinney, the reigning world champion at the 4k pursuit.
