ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. — Oneida County honors one of its own with an exhibit dedicated to 2009 World Luge Champion Erin Hamlin. Hamlin is a native of Remsen. She took home the gold medal in the women’s singles event at this year’s World Luge Championship in Lake Placid.
Hamlin also competed in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, finishing 12th.
Hamlin says she is honored to have this exhibit hanging in the Oneida County Office Building and she appreciates all the support her community has given her.
“Half the town, it seems like, comes to Lake Placid to watch me race, which is awesome, you know. We go to Europe and there’s not that many people cheering if any for the U.S. So having that support and fan group is awesome and coming home after a long season and having signs up saying ‘Go Erin’ all around town is really nice,” said Hamlin.
