JOHNSON TO ATTEND THE SUPER BOWL CHEERLEADING SPIRIT CLINIC

2008 Olympic Individual Balance Beam Gold Medalist and Individual All-Around Women’s Gymnastics Silver Medalist Shawn Johnson will attend the 13th Annual Super Bowl Cheerleading Spirit Clinic at NFL Experience Presented by Bank of America on January 24 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Johnson will be recognized as a Cheerleader of Life for setting a positive example for young women.
Johnson, 16, was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team and is currently a member of the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars. At the 2008 Olympic Games, she earned an individual gold medal and three silver medals, including a team silver.
Johnson’s appearance is part of a day full of cheerleading clinics and competitions at the clinic fields at NFL Experience, adjacent to Raymond James Stadium.
From 10:30-11:45 a.m., local cheerleading and dance teams will have an opportunity to showcase their talent in a fun and exciting atmosphere.
From 12:00-1:00 p.m., young women from local schools (ages10-19) will learn football fundamentals, teamwork, cheering skills and dance techniques at the Super Bowl XLIII Cheerleading Spirit Clinic. This annual clinic, now in its 13th year, gives young women the opportunity to experience the excitement of Super Bowl XLIII firsthand and to enjoy a day of positive competition at a free event designed specifically for them.
NFL players will teach football basics while professional cheerleaders demonstrate cheer and dance techniques. Participants will learn about the importance of getting a good education, living drug-free and striving to achieve dreams.
