Phinney wins bronze in time trial at junior worlds

Two-time junior world champion Taylor Phinney of Boulder, Colo., wrapped up his junior world championship run Friday in South Africa, winning a bronze medal in the individual time trial.

He finished eight seconds off the gold medal pace set by Michal Kwiatkowski of Poland.

Phinney, who a gold medal in the 3,000-meter individual pursuit last Saturday,  recorded a time of 36 minutes, 29.15 seconds over the 26.8-kilometer course. Kwiatkowski turned in a 36:21.21 to claim the rainbow jersey and silver medalist Jakob Steigmiller of Germany finished five seconds back at 36:26.54.

Phinney now will focus on the Beijing Games, where he is scheduled to compete in the 4,000-meter individual pursuit on Aug. 15.
